About 35mm Film Cameras
35mm Film Cameras is a price checker for used film cameras. It reads every eBay listing for 144 film cameras each day and tells you whether the price is fair for that camera in that state.
Where the prices come from
Listings come from eBay's official Browse API, on eBay UK and eBay US: every seller who posts to that country, including dealers in Japan and Europe. Today that's 15,200 listings on eBay UK, 7,175 of them posted from Japan. Prices are refreshed every day, and pages show when they were last updated.
These are asking prices, not sold prices: eBay doesn't make sold prices available to sites like ours. We record the typical asking price every day, so the history on each camera page shows the trend.
How a listing is checked
- Matched to a model. The title is read to work out exactly which camera it is: "mju II" and "mju II Zoom 80" are different cameras, as are the Leica M6, M6 TTL and the 2022 reissue. Titles that name two models (lots, or "same lens as the mju II") are left out.
- Junk removed. Parts, accessories, "for spares or repair", lens-only listings, digital cameras and replicas are filtered out.
- Graded. Is it tested, not stated, or untested or faulty? Is it a body only, with one lens, or with several? This comes from the title and, when the title doesn't say, the start of the seller's description (marked with a *). We also pick out film tested, serviced (CLA), new light seals, the seller's cosmetic grade (Mint, Near Mint, Exc+5) and collector editions.
- Landed price. On eBay UK, cameras posted from outside the UK get an estimate of the 20% import VAT added, so a camera from Japan is compared fairly with one from a UK seller. Duty and courier fees aren't included; the import cost calculator adds them.
- Scored. Each price group (status and lens) has its own typical price: the middle Buy It Now price after trimming outliers, from at least 4 listings. A listing is scored only against its own group, so an untested body never makes a tested kit look dear. Anything 40% or more under typical is flagged to check rather than called a deal.
- Seller checks. Sellers with little or poor feedback, and "read the description" listings, are flagged and left out of "safe deals".
How we make money
35mm Film Cameras is free. As an eBay Partner Network affiliate we may earn a small commission when you buy something on eBay after clicking a link here, at no extra cost to you. It never changes which listings we show or how they're scored.
