Questions buyers ask
Is a tested film camera worth paying more for?
Usually, yes. A camera that hasn't been tested can need light seals (about £20), a clean and lubrication (£60 to £150) or be beyond economic repair, especially electronic compacts. Across 107 models today, tested cameras are listed at a median of 2% less than ones where the seller doesn't say.
Why are some tested cameras cheaper than untested ones?
Sellers who don't say whether a camera works are often dealers or collectors pricing on condition, and Japanese dealers often grade "Mint" without using the word "tested" in the title. That's why we read the description too, and why every listing is scored against its own group.
What does "film tested" mean?
The seller has shot a roll of film through the camera and had it developed, which proves the shutter, the light seals and the film transport all work. It's the strongest "working" you can get short of a service.
