Prices from outside the UK include about 20% import VAT. Over £135 the courier may add a handling fee, and customs duty can apply. Work out the full cost with the import cost calculator.

A * after the working status means it comes from the seller's description, not the title.

Before you buy a used FM

  1. Mechanical shutter: check every speed and the meter LEDs.
  2. Check the mirror foam and the light seals.
  3. Fire every shutter speed with the back open: 1 second should sound clearly longer than 1/2, and the fast speeds should look different.
  4. Check the light seals around the back door and the mirror foam: they turn sticky or crumble with age (about £20 to replace).
  5. Pay through eBay. eBay's Money Back Guarantee covers a camera that doesn't work as described, but only if you pay through eBay. Our used film camera checklist has the tests to do the day it arrives.

Battery: 2x LR44 / SR44 (meter only). The shutter works without one. Battery finder →

Questions buyers ask

How much is a used FM worth?

On eBay UK today a tested / working, with lens Nikon FM typically costs £273 delivered, with most between £214 and £276. A tested body on its own is about £167. These are asking prices, so many sell for a little less, especially with Best Offer.

Is it cheaper to buy a FM from Japan?

33 of the 55 Nikon FM listings on eBay UK right now are posted from Japan. The cheapest tested one from Japan is £128 including about 20% import VAT, against £102 for the cheapest tested one from a UK seller. Japanese dealers grade cosmetic condition carefully ("Near Mint", "Exc+5"), but you pay import VAT and sometimes a courier fee, and returns take longer. All the prices on this page already include the VAT estimate.

What battery does the FM take?

2x LR44 / SR44 (meter only). The shutter works without a battery; it only powers the meter.

Is a tested FM worth paying more for?

Right now tested examples are listed at about £16 (6%) more than ones where the seller doesn't say. A film-tested camera is the safest buy: an untested one can need a service costing £60 to £150.

What should I check before buying a used FM?

Mechanical shutter: check every speed and the meter LEDs. Check the mirror foam and the light seals.

Are these sold prices?

No, they're asking prices from live eBay listings, refreshed daily. We record the daily typical price, so the history chart shows how asking prices move.
