Selling a film camera

How do you work out what my camera is worth?

We take today's Buy It Now listings for the same model in the same state (tested or not, body only or with a lens), use sellers in the same country where there are enough, trim the outliers and give the middle price and the range most sit in. Collector editions are left out.

Are these sold prices?

No, they're asking prices. Cameras often sell for a little less, so price a few pounds under the middle of the range for a quick sale, or at the top with a film test and new seals.

How can I get more for my film camera?

Run a roll of film through it and say so ("film tested"), with a sample photo. Fit new light seals (about £20 of foam and an hour's work). Photograph it from every side, including the lens against the light. Include the lens, case and manual, and list the battery it takes.

Should I sell to a camera shop or on eBay?

A shop or trade-in site is quicker and safer, but pays less than you'll get from a buyer. On eBay UK, private sellers have paid no final value fee since October 2024, so selling yourself usually gets you the most.
