Where these cameras are posted from

Europe59 listingscheapest tested £3,866
Japan53 listingscheapest tested £2,820
UK sellers14 listingscheapest tested £2,258

Prices from outside the UK include about 20% import VAT. Over £135 the courier may add a handling fee, and customs duty can apply. Work out the full cost with the import cost calculator.

A * after the working status means it comes from the seller's description, not the title.

Before you buy a used M6

  1. The shutter is mechanical; the battery only runs the LED meter. Check both arrows light.
  2. Check the rangefinder: the patch should be bright and line up vertically and at infinity. A misaligned rangefinder needs a service (£150+).
  3. Rangefinder flare (the patch whiting out in bright light) is a known M6 trait, not a fault.
  4. Check the cloth shutter curtains for pinholes (fire it at a bright light with the lens off) and ask when it was last serviced (CLA).
  5. Special editions (titanium, black paint, LHSA, King of Thailand) sell for much more: compare like with like.
  6. Pay through eBay. eBay's Money Back Guarantee covers a camera that doesn't work as described, but only if you pay through eBay. Our used film camera checklist has the tests to do the day it arrives.

Battery: 2x SR44 / LR44 or 1x CR1/3N (meter only). The shutter works without one. Battery finder →

Questions buyers ask

How much is a used M6 worth?

On eBay UK today a working not stated, body only Leica M6 typically costs £3,424 delivered, with most between £3,022 and £4,452. A tested body on its own is about £3,307. These are asking prices, so many sell for a little less, especially with Best Offer.

Is it cheaper to buy a M6 from Japan?

53 of the 126 Leica M6 listings on eBay UK right now are posted from Japan. The cheapest tested one from Japan is £2,820 including about 20% import VAT, against £2,258 for the cheapest tested one from a UK seller. Japanese dealers grade cosmetic condition carefully ("Near Mint", "Exc+5"), but you pay import VAT and sometimes a courier fee, and returns take longer. All the prices on this page already include the VAT estimate.

What battery does the M6 take?

2x SR44 / LR44 or 1x CR1/3N (meter only). The shutter works without a battery; it only powers the meter.

Is a tested M6 worth paying more for?

Right now tested examples are listed at about £117 (3%) less than ones where the seller doesn't say. A film-tested camera is the safest buy: an untested one can need a service costing £60 to £150.

What should I check before buying a used M6?

The shutter is mechanical; the battery only runs the LED meter. Check both arrows light. Check the rangefinder: the patch should be bright and line up vertically and at infinity. A misaligned rangefinder needs a service (£150+).

Are these sold prices?

No, they're asking prices from live eBay listings, refreshed daily. We record the daily typical price, so the history chart shows how asking prices move.
