Prices from outside the UK include about 20% import VAT. Over £135 the courier may add a handling fee, and customs duty can apply. Work out the full cost with the import cost calculator.

A * after the working status means it comes from the seller's description, not the title.

Before you buy a used Canonet QL17 GIII

  1. The light seals have almost certainly turned to goo: expect to replace them unless the seller says they're new.
  2. The shutter works without a battery; the auto mode needs the mercury-cell replacement.
  3. Check the rangefinder patch is bright and lines up at infinity.
  4. Check the rangefinder patch is bright and lines up at infinity and vertically.
  5. Pay through eBay. eBay's Money Back Guarantee covers a camera that doesn't work as described, but only if you pay through eBay. Our used film camera checklist has the tests to do the day it arrives.

Battery: PX625 mercury cell (discontinued): use a 1.35V zinc-air 675 cell in an adapter, or a Wein cell, for accurate metering. The shutter works without one. Battery finder →

Questions buyers ask

How much is a used Canonet QL17 GIII worth?

On eBay UK today a tested / working Canonet QL17 GIII typically costs £260 delivered, with most between £216 and £304. Untested or faulty ones go for about £145. These are asking prices, so many sell for a little less, especially with Best Offer.

Is it cheaper to buy a Canonet QL17 GIII from Japan?

107 of the 117 Canonet QL17 GIII listings on eBay UK right now are posted from Japan. The cheapest tested one from Japan is £153 including about 20% import VAT, against £141 for the cheapest tested one from a UK seller. Japanese dealers grade cosmetic condition carefully ("Near Mint", "Exc+5"), but you pay import VAT and sometimes a courier fee, and returns take longer. All the prices on this page already include the VAT estimate.

What battery does the Canonet QL17 GIII take?

PX625 mercury cell (discontinued): use a 1.35V zinc-air 675 cell in an adapter, or a Wein cell, for accurate metering. The shutter works without a battery; it only powers the meter.

Is a tested Canonet QL17 GIII worth paying more for?

Right now tested examples are listed at about £31 (13%) more than ones where the seller doesn't say. A film-tested camera is the safest buy: an untested one can need a service costing £60 to £150.

What should I check before buying a used Canonet QL17 GIII?

The light seals have almost certainly turned to goo: expect to replace them unless the seller says they're new. The shutter works without a battery; the auto mode needs the mercury-cell replacement.

Are these sold prices?

No, they're asking prices from live eBay listings, refreshed daily. We record the daily typical price, so the history chart shows how asking prices move.
