Prices from outside the UK include about 20% import VAT. Over £135 the courier may add a handling fee, and customs duty can apply. Work out the full cost with the import cost calculator.

A * after the working status means it comes from the seller's description, not the title.

Before you buy a used Trip 35

  1. Test the selenium meter: point it at a dark corner and press the shutter. A red flag should pop up in the viewfinder and the shutter lock. If it fires anyway in the dark, the meter is dead.
  2. In bright light the aperture blades should snap closed when you press the shutter. Sticky (oily) blades are common.
  3. Look through the lens for haze or fungus, and check the light seals around the back door.
  4. Point and shoots are mostly electronic and rarely worth repairing: ask for a film-tested camera, not just "powers on".
  5. Pay through eBay. eBay's Money Back Guarantee covers a camera that doesn't work as described, but only if you pay through eBay. Our used film camera checklist has the tests to do the day it arrives.

Battery: None needed. The shutter works without one. Battery finder →

Questions buyers ask

How much is a used Trip 35 worth?

On eBay UK today a tested / working Olympus Trip 35 typically costs £90 delivered, with most between £66 and £105. Untested or faulty ones go for about £54. These are asking prices, so many sell for a little less, especially with Best Offer.

Is it cheaper to buy a Trip 35 from Japan?

30 of the 138 Olympus Trip 35 listings on eBay UK right now are posted from Japan. The cheapest tested one from Japan is £91 including about 20% import VAT, against £37 for the cheapest tested one from a UK seller. Japanese dealers grade cosmetic condition carefully ("Near Mint", "Exc+5"), but you pay import VAT and sometimes a courier fee, and returns take longer. All the prices on this page already include the VAT estimate.

What battery does the Trip 35 take?

None needed. The shutter works without a battery; it only powers the meter.

Is a tested Trip 35 worth paying more for?

Right now tested examples are listed at about £8 (9%) less than ones where the seller doesn't say. A film-tested camera is the safest buy: an untested one can need a service costing £60 to £150.

What should I check before buying a used Trip 35?

Test the selenium meter: point it at a dark corner and press the shutter. A red flag should pop up in the viewfinder and the shutter lock. If it fires anyway in the dark, the meter is dead. In bright light the aperture blades should snap closed when you press the shutter. Sticky (oily) blades are common.

Are these sold prices?

No, they're asking prices from live eBay listings, refreshed daily. We record the daily typical price, so the history chart shows how asking prices move.
