Where these cameras are posted from

Japan50 listingscheapest tested £303
Europe8 listingscheapest tested £623
UK sellers6 listingscheapest tested £349

Prices from outside the UK include about 20% import VAT. Over £135 the courier may add a handling fee, and customs duty can apply. Work out the full cost with the import cost calculator.

A * after the working status means it comes from the seller's description, not the title.

Before you buy a used 645

  1. Not the digital 645D / 645Z: check it's the film body.
  2. Check the film insert and the motor drive.
  3. Check the film back: light seals, frame spacing and that the dark slide is included.
  4. Check the shutter at every speed and the lens for haze or fungus.
  5. Pay through eBay. eBay's Money Back Guarantee covers a camera that doesn't work as described, but only if you pay through eBay. Our used film camera checklist has the tests to do the day it arrives.

Battery: 6x AA. The camera won't work without it. Battery finder →

Questions buyers ask

How much is a used 645 worth?

On eBay UK today a working not stated, with lens Pentax 645 typically costs £620 delivered, with most between £496 and £783. A tested body on its own is about £492. These are asking prices, so many sell for a little less, especially with Best Offer.

Is it cheaper to buy a 645 from Japan?

50 of the 64 Pentax 645 listings on eBay UK right now are posted from Japan. The cheapest tested one from Japan is £303 including about 20% import VAT, against £349 for the cheapest tested one from a UK seller. Japanese dealers grade cosmetic condition carefully ("Near Mint", "Exc+5"), but you pay import VAT and sometimes a courier fee, and returns take longer. All the prices on this page already include the VAT estimate.

What battery does the 645 take?

6x AA.

Is a tested 645 worth paying more for?

Right now tested examples are listed at about £184 (60%) more than ones where the seller doesn't say. A film-tested camera is the safest buy: an untested one can need a service costing £60 to £150.

What should I check before buying a used 645?

Not the digital 645D / 645Z: check it's the film body. Check the film insert and the motor drive.

Are these sold prices?

No, they're asking prices from live eBay listings, refreshed daily. We record the daily typical price, so the history chart shows how asking prices move.
