- Fire every shutter speed with the back open: 1 second should sound clearly longer than 1/2, and the fast speeds should look different.
- Check the light seals around the back door and the mirror foam: they turn sticky or crumble with age (about £20 to replace).
- Look through the lens against a light for haze, fungus or scratches.
